At Frieze Masters 2019, Cristea Roberts Gallery (Booth F19) will present a solo display of drawings by Michael Craig-Martin. All the works on display come from the artist’s personal archive and the presentation will include over 60 pieces dating from the 1960s to 2012. The selection of drawings, which have never been offered for sale before, will include studies for paintings, wall drawings and museum installations, as well as previously unseen studies relating to his seminal work, An Oak Tree (1974). As part of the display, Craig-Martin will also recreate one of his earliest wall drawings on the booth; Hammer, Sandal and Sardine Tin was first installed in 1978 and subsequently included in his retrospective at Whitechapel Gallery, London, in 1989.
