Visual and Conceptual Practice
Nandita Chaudhuri is a London-based British multidisciplinary artist and writer whose work explores identity, migration, memory, and the enduring echoes of displacement across time and geography. Her practice bridges personal experience and collective consciousness, weaving transnational narratives shaped by cultural duality, hybridity, and the complexities of living between multiple worlds.
Working across visual art, text, performance, and digital media, Chaudhuri investigates liminal spaces — thresholds between places, histories, and identities — capturing both tension and harmony in cross-cultural encounters. Her work engages with themes of belonging, transformation, and the human response to shifting social, political, and technological landscapes, often highlighting the paucity in human connectedness and reflecting her personal struggle against oppression. Her works speak of those empty spaces, the hush of footsteps left behind. By integrating painting, sculpture, digital media, poetry, and performance, she creates immersive experiences that invite audiences to reflect on migration, memory, and the layered nuances of contemporary identity.
Her visual language is defined by layered symbolism, abstract gestures, and a deep engagement with rebirth, belonging, and the liminal spaces we inhabit between “two dots” — whether places, times, or identities. Chaudhuri’s practice celebrates the richness of duality, offering audiences a space to encounter the tensions, harmonies, and poetic complexities of transnational experience.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My mixed media paintings are all alive in my head; with the characters all moving and behaving in atypical, even questionable ways. For me the visual element was not complete with just the physical painting. I needed them to come alive, hence the underlying textual medium of prose and poems. I use on a constant basis, technology led art (holograms, projection mapping, NFTs etc) in trying to push boundaries in making art. Each work sits as an amalgam across a vocabulary of multiple disciplines; painting, poetry, video art, animation and augmented reality. The animated paintings make a deeply emotional, and satirical take on various current issues. My poems are juxtaposed as a thin under layer, further bringing out the harsh brutality in the story.
